“Why do you go away?"... "So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.” -Terry Pratchett
This quote always reminds me of the slight panic/extreme excitement I feel when I am returning home from my travels. I used to be afraid that by being away, I was somehow missing my life going on at home without me there. But I have come to realize that this isn't the case at all.
I am lucky enough to call the Hudson Valley home and recently moved to the beautiful Ulster County, NY before starting my studies abroad. Whenever I have the good fortune to return, I am always overwhelmed by the breathtaking surroundings of where I live. And yes, the people I come home to see me differently, as I do them, through lenses tinted with extreme love and appreciation. Being away from home and loved ones is so extremely difficult, please do not get me wrong, but it is a little easier when you have people in your life who encourage you to grow and allow you to go out into the world, trusting that you will come back even better than before.
During a trip home in September, my boyfriend and I spent the afternoon at Opus40 in Woodstock and enjoyed the picturesque views of the catskill mountains and the indian summer rays! I promise that one day I will write about my recommendations of all the wonderful things to enjoy in the Hudson Valley!
