Gopalpur is a small beach town in Odisha on the Bay of Bengal that I visited this past weekend. About 4 hours from Bhubaneswar, this was an easy stop on the way back from my rural exposure visit. This calm little town is completely untouched by foreign exposure other than the few “resorts” which are used more for the purpose of corporate or religious retreats. The beach was quiet, with a few small shops along the edge and families enjoying the Sunday sun. As a white women in India, tanning wasn’t really in the question, so I just enjoyed the clean, crisp air and a break from the sounds of city life.
And camel rides on the beach are a thing in India, like the Indian version of a dune buggy... that spits.
